Hi,sorry for the delay I did say I am forgetfull!
The ICI (imperial chemical industries) code for poppy red is AD49. The ppg code is delfleet EFT41850, eft stands for european fleet. If your ppg supplier dose not recognise this code I may be able to get you the mixing formula assuming that they have the same base colours to mix from over the pond!
I am not saying you are wrong or there is not 2 shades of poppy red , just that I have no information to support the claim. I suspect that the paint put on 4/65s did not fade like early paint.
